We had all finished our training provided by Yorkshire Ambulance Service and all the kit had come through so we had been ‘live’ for over week but no one had got a call out. This week I received the kit on a Thursday night- amongst others things an automatic external defibrillator and an oxygen bottle. I was going to be keeping it for the whole weekend, logging in with ambulance control when I was ‘on duty’. I had ended up with the job of coordinator for the scheme as David, who started our group, was now away at medical school. So far all I had got was a couple of weeks of head aches trying to keep everyone happy; getting them the slots on the rota they wanted and getting the rotas out to them, so it was good for me to get the first call out to remind me what it’s really all about- helping the ambulance service save lives.
